This mildly sweet coconut agua fresca is as soothing as it is refreshing, with texture that is reminiscent of an ice-cold glass of milk.

Make ahead: The agua fresca needs to chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.

Storage: Refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Ingredients

Servings: 6 (makes about 6 1/2 cups)

  • 4 cups cold filtered water
  • One (13.5-ounce) can unsweetened regular or light coconut milk (1 2/3 cups)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar, plus more to taste
  • Ice
  • Strips or pieces of fresh coconut, for serving (optional)

Directions

Time Icon Total: 10 mins, plus at least 2 hours to chill

  1. Step 1

    In a 2-quart pitcher, combine the water, coconut milk and sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Taste, and if desired, add more sugar as needed. Fill the pitcher with ice and refrigerate until chilled through, at least 2 hours.

  2. Step 2

    When ready to serve, divide the drink among tall ice-filled glasses and garnish each glass with a strip or piece of fresh coconut, if desired.
